Is the idea of a first cause, an edge to the Universe or an end to time unworthy of God?

If an artist made any kind of work of art when you could "see the join" or otherwise see the work involved in the form of a smudge, fingerprint, piece of hair stuck in the canvas or other sign of their intervention, it could be argued that it was imperfect or incomplete. If the Universe proclaims the glory of God's creation, how can there be anything like a first cause which needs explaining, an end to time involving the Last Judgement or, as some creationists claim, an edge to space? In fact, how can there be any kind of sign that strongly suggests God's existence as the simplest explanation? Does that not therefore mean that when someone believes in intelligent design, they are in fact accusing God of being less than perfect in His work?
